Successful Day At Black Country Chamber Expo

Black Country Chamber Autumn Expo Star

Last week, the Star Employment Services team exhibited at the Black Country Autumn Expo. This event was held on 11 October at Walsall Football Club from 9am until 1pm. Delivered in partnership with Walsall Football Club, the Expo was held in their Stadium Suite where more than 60 exhibitors were brought together with over 500 delegates from across the region.

Highlights

As one of the highlights in the Black Country Chamber’s event calendar, the Autumn Expo is always a fantastic opportunity to network with businesses from across the region. The team from Star Employment spent the day showcasing the recent brand relaunch and autumn recruitment offer, where we’ll find you three qualified candidates for just £475.

Star Employment operations manager, Kylee Russon, said: “The Autumn Expo was a great event, with many different people showing what services they offer.

“For Star Employment Services, it was successful as we had the opportunity to speak to a lot of different people. There are around five different contacts that we are currently following up to arrange meetings, so this is great for us.”

Networking

Before the event, there was also the opportunity to network with exhibitors and delegates at the Walsall Business Breakfast from 7.15am to 9am. Sponsored by BT the breakfast event included talks from the Deputy Leader of Walsall Council, Adrian Andrew and Greg Reed, CEO of Homeserve UK. Alongside this, there was a Speed Networking session from 9.30am to 11.15am, where delegates could promote their business to a round table of ten and swap contact details.

Star Employment Services, as well as discussing their services, gave everyone the chance to win a bottle of champagne as part of a business card prize draw.

Getting the most from the apprenticeship levy

MNA Recruitment is holding a workshop all about how to make the most of apprenticeships.

Held on Tuesday February 13, the event will look at the way businesses can use the apprenticeship levy effectively. This will help to develop work forces and meet future staffing needs.

“Making the most of apprenticeships” is taking place at the Express & Star offices in Queen Street, Wolverhampton. From 9:30am until 12:30pm, the workshop is by invitation only. Lindsey Flynn, from our partners Well Associates will be giving a talk and running the workshop.

Lindsey has both a BA and a Masters degree from Oxford University. She also scooped the Express & Star Business Person of the Year award in 2017. Lindsey now leads the consultancy area of Well Associates. She directs the consultancy support on major national and regional programmes. Additionally, she provides the specialist insight to management training helps organisations to access funding.

Apprenticeship workshop schedule

At 9:30am, registration with tea and coffee will begin. There will be an opportunity to network with the other attendees of the workshop. At 10am, MNA Director of recruitment services Lee Smith will give a welcome talk.

At 10:10am, the workshop with Lyndset Flynn will begin. She will discuss how to get the most out of the apprenticeship levy. The levy applies to employers in England, who have an annual pay bill above £3m. They are required to pay a 0.5% fee that can be used to invest in apprenticeship training. A £15,000 allowance is given to employers. The government introduced the apprenticeship levy to help fund the development and delivery of apprenticeships.

At 11am, there will be a break for refreshments. Following this, the group will then be given tours of both the newsroom and the digital media area.

A light lunch in the boardroom will then be provided. There will be networking and a chance to ask the MNA teams any questions.

January recruitment

The workshop is running is part of MNA Recruitment’s January campaign.

Director of recruitment services Lee Smith said: “The workshop will focus upon how businesses can use the apprenticeship levy.

“We will look at future staffing needs and development strategies.”
